What I do

Now Social Work provides individualized developmental and behavioural support to people of all ages with autism and developmental disabilities, and to their families, in the Waterloo–Wellington region. Services are flexible and can be arranged to fit your schedule, goals, and funding — feel free to reach out to discuss what works for you.

Individualized developmental & skill-building support

Person-centred support toward daily-living, communication, social, and community-participation goals — built around each individual’s own strengths, interests, and pace. No two plans look the same.

  • Daily-living and self-care skills — routines, hygiene, meal prep, and household tasks broken into manageable steps
  • Communication and social skills — using visual supports, structured teaching, and social stories
  • Community participation and inclusion — recreation, volunteering, and employment-readiness goals
  • Self-directed funding programs (including Ontario’s Passport program)
  • Private arrangements — fees and scheduling are flexible and negotiable
  • Contact me to discuss what works for your situation

Behavioural support

Collaborative, positive approaches to understanding triggers and patterns, and supporting self-regulation — developed together with the individual and their caregivers, not imposed from outside.

  • Functional behaviour assessment — understanding what a behaviour is communicating, and the triggers behind it
  • Individualized Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans — proactive, skill-building strategies rather than one-size-fits-all responses
  • Coaching caregivers and staff in consistent, low-arousal approaches across home, school, and community settings
  • Crisis prevention and de-escalation, informed by my training in Non-violent Crisis Intervention and UMAB (Understanding and Managing Aggressive Behaviors)
  • Safety planning for higher-risk situations, developed collaboratively with the family
  • Ongoing monitoring and plan adjustment, using simple data to track what’s working

Care coordination & advocacy

Help navigating services, funding programs, and systems — and a steady voice advocating for the individual’s and family’s needs when it matters.

  • Navigating Passport funding and Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) applications and reviews
  • Connecting families to community programs, respite options, and specialized services
  • Liaising with schools, healthcare providers, and other agencies involved in a person’s care
  • Transition planning — school-to-adulthood, or between service providers and funding streams
  • Advocacy in meetings and decisions, making sure the individual’s and family’s voice is heard

Caregiver & family support

Support for the people who support the person — because sustainable care depends on caregivers’ own well-being too.

  • Coaching for caregiver stress, burnout, and compassion fatigue
  • Respite planning and support accessing Passport-funded breaks
  • Support for siblings and extended family, not just the primary caregiver
  • A family-systems approach — because everyone’s well-being is connected
  • Guidance through funding paperwork and program applications
  • Bilingual support — English & Korean
